About Cartógrafo
What it is
Cartógrafo is a map game for showing off to your friends: we name a country, a capital or a flag and you tap it on the map as fast as you can. A game takes a couple of minutes, so it fits in a queue, on the bus or while your food arrives.
Play solo and send your mark on WhatsApp for them to beat, open a room and play at the same time (each on their own phone), or play the daily challenge and see where you rank in the world.
There are maps of every continent and of the provinces, states and regions of Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. No sign-up, no download.
Scoring
Each piece is worth up to 100 points. You lose 20 per miss and, if you take longer than 3 seconds to find it, a little more the longer you take (down to half). You get 5 tries per piece; miss them all and it is revealed, worth 0.
Playing solo you earn a medal by share of the maximum: gold from 95%, silver from 90% and bronze from 80%. In rooms and in the daily challenge, most points wins.
Where the data comes from
Maps: Natural Earth (public domain) and Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional. Capitals: Wikidata, checked by hand. Population and area: World Bank. Quiz mountains and rivers: the usual reference values, checked by hand (disputed records are never asked). Flags: flag-icons (MIT licence) and Wikimedia Commons.
Place names follow everyday English usage; Spanish and Portuguese names are kept where English has no name of its own.
